William Butler YeatsResidence: 1926 - South Dock, Dublin, Ireland
William Butler Yeats was one of the greatest poets in the English language and the defining literary voice of modern Ireland. Born in Dublin in 1865, his imagination was shaped by Irish folklore, mythology, and the landscapes of County Sligo, which seeped into everything he would later write. He co-founded the Abbey Theatre with Lady Gregory in 1904, giving Ireland its first national stage and launching a cultural revival that reshaped how the Irish saw themselves. His poetry grew sharper and more commanding with age, culminating in late masterworks like The Tower, and in 1923 he became the first Irishman ever awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Today he is remembered as Ireland's greatest poet and one of the architects of a national identity built from language, myth, and imagination.
